What a garden centre day looks like

These are our most relaxed trips. You get a long stop at the garden centre — plants and gifts, but also the food hall, farm shop and a proper sit-down café — and then a second stop at a nearby town or city so the day is not all one place. There is very little walking involved and plenty of seating, which is why they are popular with regulars and with groups travelling together.

Where we go

Heighley Gate near Morpeth is the Northumberland option and is usually paired with Alnwick. Lanchester is paired with Durham, giving you the garden centre in the morning and the city, cathedral and riverside in the afternoon. The trips currently on sale are listed below.

Good to know

Bags and boxes travel in the luggage compartment, so buying plants is not a problem. Pickups are the usual local stops in Northumberland, Newcastle and at Washington Services, and you are back at the same stop the same evening.
